Surkhet administration removing encroachers from public land

Surkhet–The District Administration Office, Surkhet has started removing the illegal structures constructed by encroaching upon public land in the district.

The district administration has started reinstating the land owned by the government offices and the public lands encroached by various sides, as per the court orders.

Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari said so far they have reinstated eight kaththas 11 dhurs land belonging to the Department of Road.

But some unscrupulous people had been using this land which had been acquired by the Department by paying compensation to the land-owner. The Department had acquired this land for the construction of the Surkhet-Jumla Road. The District Administration Office has issued a notice to the people who have encroached upon the public land and constructed various structures at different places of the district, to remove the illegal structures within 15 days. CDO Adhikari said the district administration will itself demolish such structures and make the owners pay for the cost if they do not obey the administration's orders within the deadline.

The district administration has also directed to remove 74 illegal structures constructed by encroaching on the land belonging to the District Land Revenue Office. The administration is also searching for more such encroached land in the district in a vigorous manner.

It is found that the government land is encroached upon by the landless, flood affected and sometimes even by the government offices themselves.
