Sunakali Participates in Kazan Film Festival, Russia

A documentary film ‘Sunakali’ by Nepalese film director, Bjojraj Bhat, participates in the 13th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival, Russia.  The film reveals the story of a women’s soccer team from Mugu, Western Nepal and its journey to the national championship, focusing on a girl’s passion for football that helps her to pursue her dream and break free from the fate of the majority of girls in her village.

The winners of the 13th Kazan Muslim Film Festival will be announced on September 11, 2017.  

The 13th edition of the festival received over 700 entries from 61 countries, 60 of them where shortlisted to compete in 6 nominations.

This is the first time, when a Nepalese film participates in competition segment of Kazan film festival. 

Since 2005, Kazan Muslim Film Festival is one of the largest film forums held annually in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. The concept of the festival is reflected through its official motto ‘Through dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue’. The festival focuses on films supporting the ideas of peace-building, tolerance and humanity and promoting intercultural dialogue.
