Proper protection of children in child reform home stressed

Kathmandu–Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has said that children sheltered in child reform homes should be treated in a good manner with psychological counseling.

At an inaugural session of a workshop related to child protection organised by Central Juvenile Justice Committee here today, Chief Justice stressed the appropriate protection of children and said child reform home should be child-friendly.

He said, "Effective implementation of directives given by Supreme Court regarding child reform home is necessary." Similarly, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Thamamaya Thapa, said that children of child reform homes have not been able to get appropriate protection in lack of acts and laws. Saying there are now 800 children in five child reform homes, she said that a big child reform house is going to be constructed in Tanahun.

Specially, street children, orphans, children from poor family background and the children involved in criminal activities are kept in child reform home. Likewise, Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel pointed out the need of collective initiatives of all to make them useful for the nation, adding that it was necessary to increase awareness against crime on such children.

Committee Chair and judge of Supreme Court, Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai stressed that child reform house should be child-friendly and they should be treatment in a good manner.
