Georgian parliament speaker resigns
Georgian parliament speaker Archil Talakvadze announced his resignation on Saturday.
"Given that several months of tense negotiations between the ruling party and the opposition parties ended with an agreement, where I was involved along with the party chairman, I think it would be appropriate to leave the position of Speaker and nominate a person who will lead the work of the parliament from a more neutral position," said Talakvadze at a news briefing.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Kakha Kuchava will be nominated for the post of parliament speaker while Talakvadze will hold the position of vice speaker.
Kuchava, who has been the vice speaker of the tenth convocation of the Georgian parliament, has been a member of the ruling party since 2016.
