National Assembly Chairman Dahal: Intent and Objective of Constitution Amendment Must Be Identified

Kathmandu. National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has stated that the intent and objective of the constitution amendment must be identified before amending it. 

Addressing the 66th annual general meeting of the Former Parliamentarians Forum, Nepal on Wednesday, he said that the constitution is not a document that cannot be amended, but it is important whether the amendment will lead the country towards strengthening or regression. 

He also stated that the Former Parliamentarians Forum is a factory of experience, knowledge, and prosperity. He also asserted that the Former Parliamentarians Forum should play an important role in moving Nepal's political process in the right direction. 

Mentioning the protection and promotion of national unity as the main responsibility of the organization, he emphasized the need to work for the protection, promotion, and strengthening of the achievements gained by the Nepali people after a long struggle. He said, 'This organization also has the responsibility to maintain the unity of the country, national unity. The most important thing is national unity. After establishing unity, it is also necessary to protect, promote, and strengthen the achievements that the Nepali people have achieved through years of struggle. The constitution is not a document that cannot be amended at all. It is necessary to first ascertain its intent whether that amendment will lead the country towards strengthening or regression.'

He also stated that the democratic system and the constitution are achievements of the Nepali people after a long struggle, and there is a need for everyone to be flexible for the protection of the constitution and the system.
