Tundikhel Greening Program Launched in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. A special campaign has been launched with the objective of making Tundikhel, a historic and open public space in the heart of the capital, more green, organized, and environmentally friendly. 

Under the 'Tundikhel Greening Program', the work of planting grass in the open field of Tundikhel has been formally started.

This initiative to plant grass in the open area of Tundikhel has been undertaken in mutual coordination and cooperation between Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Nepali Army, and other relevant bodies. This campaign has been launched to transform the appearance of Tundikhel, which has been dusty, grassless, and barren in some places for years, into a lush green space.

Under the program, there is a plan to gradually expand green grass in various parts of Tundikhel. This work will not only enhance the overall beauty of Tundikhel but will also greatly help in controlling dust in Kathmandu's main urban area and maintaining environmental balance. It is expected that the general public will be able to enjoy a clean, green, and scenic open space.

According to the relevant bodies, the grass will not just be planted and left; regular irrigation, proper conservation, and long-term management will also be carried out concurrently for its sustainability. As the monsoon season is about to begin, this time is considered technically most suitable for planting grass. Therefore, the work is being expedited with the aim of ensuring the grass takes root easily and spreads well.

Tundikhel is established as the most important and historic open space in the Kathmandu Valley. It is where important national ceremonies, various cultural programs, and sports activities are conducted, and where the general public engages in daily strolls and relaxation. In recent years, there have been widespread demands for the conservation, beautification, and more effective and citizen-friendly utilization of this open space.
