Maoist Vice-Chair Sapkota warns of escalating security challenges

Kathmandu, February 23 — CPN (Maoist Center) Vice Chairman and Spokesperson Agni Sapkota has emphasized that the recent remarks from the Nepal Army's Brigade Commander's meeting, which highlighted growing security challenges in the country, should be taken seriously.

He warned that if the issue of Pathibhara cable car project is not resolved promptly, it could escalate into a major problem.

He also mentioned that the issue of Madhesi identity has been raised, and the army has urged the government to address it swiftly, making it clear that the country is at a serious crossroads.

While addressing the second session of the Press Center Nepal Valley Province Committee, Sapkota said, “Whenever the people begin to rise against the rulers, the rulers try to silence them. That’s why the government brought out the ordinance concerning social media.”

Sapkota criticized the government for attempting to run the country through ordinances and accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of trying to dissolve Parliament again.

He claimed that Oli had attempted to dissolve the Parliament when he was the Speaker, and he argued that the current government has completely failed.

He further stated that the government’s downfall had already begun, as it had lost the trust of the people.

He pointed out that the Prime Minister's office itself acknowledged its poor performance in the recent report, further proving the government's failure.

Sapkota stressed that the people must rise up for the defense of the country, noting that the situation in the nation was becoming increasingly precarious.

He also mentioned that the Maoist Center is becoming more united and that Nepal’s existence is intertwined with that of the Maoist movement.

He emphasized the need to move forward by gaining the trust of the people.

He also commented that although there have been some challenges due to the suspension of projects by the USAID and MCC, these should be seen as opportunities.
