Hearing on Rabi Lamichhane's bail commences
Kathmandu, January 13 — The debate over whether to send Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to jail or release him on bail has begun at Kathmandu District Court.
The debate started in the bench of Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari, with the government attorney presenting arguments.
District Attorney Khadindra Raj Katwal initiated the argument on behalf of the prosecution. After the government attorney finishes the argument, Lamichhane's legal team will present their defense.
Lamichhane appeared in court on Sunday after an indictment was filed against him for embezzling funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative.
According to police investigations, Lamichhane took NPR 57,898,480 from the cooperative, which had violated the law.
The prosecution is seeking to recover the same amount from Lamichhane as compensation.
