Jay Trophy Men's Elite Cup: Police defeats Madhesh by an inning and 35 runs

Kathmandu, January 9 — In the two-day 'Jay Trophy Men's Elite Cup' cricket competition, Nepal Police Club defeated Madhesh Province by one inning and 35 runs in their second match.

The match, held in Birgunj, saw Madhesh Province being bowled out for just 94 runs in their second innings, ensuring an easy victory for Police Club.

Police Club dominated in the second innings with brilliant bowling, taking all the wickets in just 32.2 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel took five wickets, including three wickets in a single over.

Gulshan Jha claimed three wickets as well. No batter from Madhesh Province was able to stay at the crease for long, with the highest score coming from Vishal Patel, who made 27 runs.

Earlier, in the first innings, Police Club had already gained a significant lead of 129 runs over Madhesh Province.

Police Club scored 258 runs in their first innings, with Kushal Bhurtel and Dilip Nath forming a strong partnership of 96 runs. Bhurtel top-scored with 63 runs, while Dilip made 40 runs.

This was the first game in the tournament with a clear result, thanks to excellent performances from both Police Club's bowling and batting departments.

The final match will be a three-day game, as per CAN’s announcement. The Jay Trophy was named after Jaykumar Nath Shah, the former president of CAN, who started this competition in 1980. For a long time, the Jay Trophy was used as a selection base for the national team.

In the Jay Trophy, players wear white jerseys, and the matches are played with a red ball.

Nepal Police Club is led by captain Arif Sheikh, Bagmati Province is captained by Sandeep Lamichhane, Madhesh Province by Harishankar Sah, and Army Club is captained by Binod Bhandari.
