Delay in completing the remaining tasks of the peace process: NC leader Sitaula
Kathmandu, November 19 — Former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has stated that there has been a delay in completing the remaining tasks of the peace process. He emphasized that there should be no delay in finishing the transitional justice-related tasks, having played a crucial role in bringing the former rebel Maoists into peaceful politics.
Speaking at an interactive session organized by the Department of Conflict and Development at Tribhuvan University in Kamaladi on Tuesday, he said, "A comprehensive peace agreement was made to provide justice to those killed or disappeared during the conflict under the threat of two guns. The peace agreement was not only between the seven parties and the rebel Maoists, but also a commitment made to the general public. This must be fulfilled. However, it has not been completed even after 18 years. The important tasks of the peace process are still pending, and this is a very serious issue. The more it is delayed, the greater the risk of more branches sprouting."
He warned that delaying the remaining tasks of the peace process would increase mutual distrust. He expressed concern that while there was trust between the seven parties and the Maoists at that time, the trust crisis has deepened over time.
