Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia issues alert on public dress code

Kathmandu, November 14 — The Nepalese Embassy in Saudi Arabia has requested Nepali nationals not to wear short half-pants in public places. The embassy issued this notice after some Nepali individuals were fined for wearing gold or other metallic jewelry, bracelets, and half-pants in public spaces. The embassy urged people to refrain from such actions.

According to Saudi laws, it is prohibited to wear short half-pants in public, play loud music in public spaces or during prayer times, spit in public places, engage in activities that create waste, or occupy spaces reserved for the elderly or disabled.

Additionally, the wearing of inappropriate clothing or jewelry, especially for men, such as outfits with offensive images, promoting discrimination, sexualized gestures, or flashy attire, is also forbidden. Activities that intimidate or scare others are banned.

Saudi laws also prohibit taking photos or videos of traffic accidents or criminal events, as well as any actions that may be considered offensive or disrespectful to Saudi society, public decorum, or morality.

Violators of these regulations may face fines up to 5,000 Saudi Riyals and additional penalties, as per Saudi legal provisions. The embassy has warned all Nepali nationals to avoid such behavior in public spaces.
