Devotees throng Doleshwor Temple to observe Mahashivaratri

Bhadgaun–A large number of devotees have arrived at the Sipadole-based Doleshwor Temple today to observe the Mahashivaratri, a Hindu festival dedicated to the Lord Shiva.

Every year, people flock here on the occasion of the Mahashivarati. The temple of Hindu God Mahadev, one of the forms of Shiva, is considered as the head of India's famous temple Kedarnath and it draws a large number of people on every festival dedicated to Shiva.

The Doleshwor Mahadev Conservation and Development Committee said all four temple gates were opened since 4:00 am today for convenience of devotees who visit the temple following an early bath.

A mixture of water, cow milk and jaggery; fruits; sweets; Dhaturo; and Bel (wood apple) leaves are offered to the idol of Doleshwor with the belief that it would bring family peace, happiness and prosperity. As per the Hindu scriptures, an unmarried paying homage to the God Shiva will be blessed by a good spouse.

Other temples of Mahadev in the district such as Ashapuri, Yatu Mahadev and Dattatraya see the arrivals of devotees significantly.
