UML sweeps in Aathrai and Phedap rural municipalities in Terahthum

Terahthum - CPN-UML has won five local units for ward Chairperson in a total of six in Terahthum district followed by Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre with a win each in rest two local units in the June 28 second phase of local level election. 


UML panel has registered a win in Aathrai, Fedap and Chathar rural municipalities. 


Min Bahadur Limbu was elected to the post of Chairperson for Aathrai rural municipality with 3, 847 votes while his closest contender Narayan Kumar Ingnam of Nepali Congress got 3,744 votes. 


NC and CPN-Maoist Centre had entered a political alliance for the candidacy of Ingnam. 


Likewise, UML's Rupa Devi Kandandwa secured 3,963 votes to be elected as the Vice-Chair of the same rural municipality defeating her closest rival CPN-Maoist Centre's Ramila Khanal who garnered 2,971 votes. 


UML panel have emerged victorious in ward no 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 of Aathrai rural municipality while NC secured a win in ward no 2 and CPN-MC in ward no 6. 


The rural municipality with the total 12,567 registered voters saw altogether 8,594 ballots cast. 


Meanwhile, UML's Hari Prasad Chongwang was elected to the post of Chairperson for Phedap rural municipality securing 3,439 votes. NC's Keshav Prasad Bhetuwal came second to him by garnering 3,220 votes. 


The rural municipality has got UML's Geeta Devi as a Vice-Chair who got 3,434 votes, defeating her closest contender Ganga Prasad Limbu of CPN-MC who received 1,701 votes. 


Of the total 5 wards in the Phedap rural municipality, UML has won in ward no 1, 3 and 4 while NC won the election in ward no 2 and 5. 


Although the rural municipality registered 10,635 voters, only 7,296 votes were cast in the election. 


Similarly, UML's Santosh Tilega of UML was elected to the post of Chairperson for Chathar rural municipality and Yadav Bahadur Khapung for Menchyayem rural municipality. 


Result is due for the Myanglung municipality where UML is taking the lead. NC, however, is in the lead in Laliguransh rural municipality as the vote counting is underway.
