Drug abuse prevention campaign in Chandragiri

Kathmandu– A public sensitization campaign on drug abuse has begun at Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu. 
Chandragiri Municipality in collaboration with several social organizations, including Jagaran Women Development Society Nepal initiated the campaign for the control of drug abuse. 


Ghanashyam Giri, Mayor of Chandragiri, shared that the drive has been put in place to prevent youths from involving in the abuse of drugs. "Scores of drug abusers are increasing day by day so it has become urgent need to put some interventions to avert the alarming situation". 


As part of the campaign, an inter-school level oratory contest on drug abuse was organized here on Tuesday to sensitize school students on the negative consequences of drugs abuse. 


A study carried out in 2013 reveals that there are 91,534 drug abusers across the country. It is estimated that the number has increased to 156,000 now. ---
