Supreme Court Orders Release of Former MP Laxmi Mahato Koiri

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued a habeas corpus order to release former MP of CPN (UML) Laxmi Mahato Koiri. A joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Shree Kant Poudel ordered the release of Koiri. The habeas corpus writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court by his son Manoj Kumar Mahato on behalf of former MP Koiri. The Area Police Office, Gaushala, Mahottari, among others, were made defendants in the writ petition. The High Court, Janakpur, had sentenced Koiri to 5 years imprisonment on Asar 17 in connection with the murder of Armed Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Thaman Bik in 2072 BS during the Madhesh movement.
