Kylian Mbappé Condemns Racist Remarks by Paraguayan MP

New York. France forward Kylian Mbappé has strongly condemned racist remarks by a Paraguayan female MP regarding his origins and education. He called the MP vile and unfit for her position.

Celeste Amarilla, an MP from Paraguay's Liberal Radical Party, posted racist remarks on social media X after Paraguay was defeated by France in the Round of 16 of the World Cup. Mbappé responded by saying, 'Celeste Amarilla, you are a vile woman and unfit for your position.'

Mbappé clarified that he does not represent Paraguay, which played with sweat, passion, and respect throughout the tournament. He stated that due to her carelessness and shameless racism, the entire world has forgotten the historic effort and journey of Paraguayan players in this World Cup, and that there is a place for an incompetent woman who shows the worst image of his country. Mbappé said he would never give people like her the freedom to spread hatred and racism worldwide.

The French Football Federation (FFF) has announced plans to file a criminal case, calling Amarilla's remarks completely hateful and unforgivable. The federation issued a statement saying these remarks are criminal and reprehensible and that legal action should be taken.

With the aim of proceeding with legal action, the FFF is reporting the matter to the public prosecutor's office. The federation stated that such remarks would shame the individual and those who spread them. The federation stated that this insult is to their country because the players of the French national team represent France.

Mbappé scored the decisive goal via a penalty in the second half of Saturday's match. With this victory, France is set to play Morocco in the quarterfinals on Thursday in Boston. With seven goals this year, Mbappé is jointly the top scorer along with Argentina's Lionel Messi and Norway's Erling Haaland.

Before MP Amarilla's remarks, former Paraguayan goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert had also said before the match that his team was facing a team from Africa. FFF President Philippe Diallo also responded to that remark, calling Chilavert a disgrace.

Diallo strongly condemned the racist remarks made by Chilavert against the French national team, stating that it undermines the values of respect, fraternity, and diversity in football. Diallo mentioned that this person, once a great goalkeeper, has now become disgraced.
