Four Arrested for Robbing Over Ten Lakh Rupees from a Man Posing as Police

Kathmandu. Four people have been arrested by the District Police Complex Kathmandu on charges of robbing more than ten and a half lakh rupees by intimidating a person who came to buy land in Vanasthali, Kathmandu, by claiming to be 'police'.

Dhan Bahadur Moktan, 43, of Khativada Chowk, Lalbandi Municipality 8, Sarlahi, had come to Kathmandu for land purchase and was staying in the room of his acquaintance Sher Bahadur Moktan. On the evening of Asar 9, at around 7 PM, a group of 5-6 people took Dhan Bahadur under control, looted Rs 10,95,000, a mobile phone, and empty Siddhartha Bank checks from him, and fled.

In the process of searching for the absconding people involved in the robbery, the police arrested four people from various places in Kathmandu on Asar 14. Those arrested include Ram Sharan Damai, 43, of Tripura Sundari Rural Municipality 3, Sindhupalchok, currently residing in Dhapasi; Sabin Khawas, 38, of Tokha Municipality 1, Kathmandu; and Laxmi Gole, 43, of Thori Rural Municipality 4, Parsa, currently residing in Gaurighat.

Similarly, Sher Bahadur Moktan, 46, of Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality 5, Sindhuli, who is an acquaintance of the victim Dhan Bahadur and resides in a rented room in Vanasthali, Kathmandu Metropolitan City 16, has also been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the robbery.

The police have recovered a total of Rs 2,00,000 in Nepali one thousand denomination notes from the arrested individuals out of the looted amount. According to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police at the District Police Complex Kathmandu, further investigation is underway from Balaju Police Circle after obtaining a 7-day detention extension order from the Kathmandu District Court against the arrested individuals on charges of theft and dacoity.
