Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Dies at 47

Bangkok. Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha has passed away at the age of 47. 

The Thai royal court officially announced on Friday that the princess, who had been in a coma for more than three years, passed away on Thursday night.

She suddenly collapsed while exercising in December 2022. According to doctors, her heart rate became uncontrolled due to a 'mycoplasma' infection in her heart. Despite receiving intensive treatment in the hospital for a long time, her health did not improve.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha is the eldest of King Vajiralongkorn's seven children. She obtained higher education in law from Cornell University in the United States. 

She served as Thailand's ambassador to Austria and as a regional ambassador to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. She was particularly known as an activist working for prison reform and the rights of female prisoners.
She was also considered very influential as a successor to the Thai throne. The BBC reported that the princess's death has further complicated the issue of succession in the Thai royal family, as the 73-year-old King Vajiralongkorn has not yet announced his successor.
