Bhaktapur District-wide Chess Tournament Begins

Bhaktapur. The Bhaktapur district-wide Suryabinayak Chess Tournament has started today in Suryabinayak. The competition, organized by the Suryabinayak Municipal Sports Development Committee with the support of Suryabinayak Municipality, started today at Divyashree Party Palace in Sallaghari and will run for three days.

The tournament was inaugurated by the spokesperson of Suryabinayak Municipality and coordinator of the Social Development Division, Rabindra Sapkota. He stated that the municipality has been preparing an annual program to promote sports at the local level and produce national-level players in the long run, organizing one sports competition every month.

He said that the municipality has been promoting sports and encouraging players by organizing football training for all classes and various sports competitions, and expressed confidence that chess will contribute to mental and intellectual development. He said that such competitions play an important role in the development of chess at the local level, identification of talent, and production of players.

Committee Member-Secretary Deepak Thapa informed that 66 players from across the district will compete in the tournament. According to him, cash prizes have been arranged for the first-place player with Rs 15,000, the second-place with Rs 10,000, the third-place with Rs 5,000, the fourth-place with Rs 3,000, and the fifth-place with Rs 3,000, along with cash prizes for both male and female competitors.

Member Secretary Thapa said that players who perform excellently in this competition will get the opportunity to represent Bhaktapur district in the upcoming third Bagmati Province-level sports competition. According to him, the competition will run for three days.
