Ukraine Parliament Approves EU Loan Agreement

Kathmandu. Ukraine's parliament on Thursday voted in favor of approving the loan agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

By approving the loan agreement with the help of the EU, a legal process has been initiated to receive 90 billion euros (104.7 billion US dollars) from the EU in the fiscal years 2026 and 2027 for Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine mentioned in a statement.

Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said, “This loan will serve as an important tool to maintain Ukraine's macroeconomic stability, finance priority budget expenditures, and strengthen the country's defense capabilities amid the conflict with Russia.”

Under the agreement, 60 billion euros will be spent to strengthen Ukraine's defense and industrial capabilities, while 30 billion euros will be allocated for the state budget.

Marchenko said that Ukraine expects to receive the first installment of aid worth 3.2 billion euros in the coming weeks.
