CPN UML Central Secretariat Meeting Begins

Kathmandu. The Central Secretariat meeting of CPN UML has started. The meeting has started at the residence of Chairman KP Oli in Gundhu, Bhaktapur.

The meeting, which is being held formally for the first time in the presence of Chairman Oli after the February 21 election, has the main agenda of dividing the work of the leaders. Leaders say that the determination of the seniority of the leaders and the review of the election may also be on the agenda of the meeting. 

However, the members have not been informed about the agenda for discussion before the meeting started. 'The agenda has not been informed, we will know in the meeting,' says a secretariat member, 'We have heard that the work division will happen.'

UML, which completed its 11th National General Convention in January, has not yet divided the work of its leaders. Similarly, party committees and departments such as the Standing Committee and Politburo have not been formed. 

Arjal, who is in the post of UML secretary, said that the discussion on work division related to the chairman's health condition may be concluded in Monday's meeting. After the February 21 election, UML Chairman KP was in mourning, and then arrested. Immediately after being released from arrest, he underwent gallbladder surgery and was hospitalized. Leaders have been saying that this is why it has taken time for the UML meeting to be held. 

Meanwhile, UML leader Jhapta Bahadur Rawal has demanded that the Central Committee meeting be called immediately. Rawal said that it has created serious disappointment and suspicion not only within UML but also among general leaders, cadres, and well-wishers across the country, as a formal review of the party's defeat has not been done and the Central Committee meeting has not been held even after one and a half months have passed since the general election was completed on February 21, 2082 BS.

Stating that the entire party rank is silent due to the silence created after suffering the worst defeat in history, Rawal has made public four issues that should be discussed in the UML Secretariat meeting. Rawal stated that the issues to be discussed in the secretariat meeting are: a ruthless review of the electoral defeat, party reorganization in terms of policy and leadership, accountability and moral responsibility of the leadership, and immediate announcement of the Central Committee meeting.
