CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahar: Youth is a Fusion of Ideology, Discipline, and Vision

Kathmandu. CPN (UML) Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar has stated that youth is not just an age group but a fusion of ideology, discipline, and perspective. 

He pointed out the need for serious review regarding the low presence of the youth generation in political activities. 

Addressing the Madan-Ashrit Memorial Assembly on Sunday, he mentioned that 'People's Multiparty Democracy' (Jabaj) envisions a fusion of youth age and ideology. He expressed concern over the growing gap in youth participation in the party's programs and movements of late. 

Mahar admitted that political parties and leaders have failed to 'connect' and 'communicate' with the new generation. Mahar said, "Youth is not just about age, it is also about ideology, discipline, and dedication to change. If someone is young but remains inactive and only expects from others, they cannot be considered true youth. More than 90 percent of participants in our programs appear to be above 40 years old. We need to factually investigate our shortcomings as to why the new generation, i.e., 'Gen Z', is not visible. We only tried to convince them with words, but we could not establish a real connection."

He argued that the tendency of leaders and cadres to keep their own family members and relatives away from politics has also led to a decline in youth participation. Chief Whip Mahar emphasized that the party needs to improve its working style and communication methods to attract youth to politics and connect them with movements.
