Government Orders Recall of 'Nova' Ice Cream Due to Harmful Bacteria

Kathmandu. The government has directed to immediately recall the 'Nova' brand ice cream produced by Fishtail Dairy Pvt. Ltd. of Pokhara from the market, deeming it unfit for human consumption.

The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control issued a notice stating that harmful bacteria were found in the ice cream of this brand. The department clarified that during market monitoring, the ice cream sample collected and tested in the laboratory was found to have 'Total Bacteria Count', 'Coliform Count', and 'Enterobacteriaceae Count' exceeding the prescribed standards and harmful to human health. The department clarified that this defect was found in the 1000 ml ice cream with 'Batch No. C02' produced on 2082-04-19 by Fishtail Dairy located in the Pokhara Industrial Area.

In accordance with Section 38 (2) of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081, the department has directed the producer to immediately recall all food items of the said batch from the market. Furthermore, as per Sub-section (4) of the same Act, all concerned have been informed not to sell or distribute the said product.
