President Paudel Expresses Confidence in Socialist-Oriented Economy

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed confidence that the constitutional arrangements envisioned for building a socialist-oriented economy in the country will materialize. He expressed heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali working sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of World Labor Day (May 1, 2026). He also wished for the assurance of labor rights.

He stated, "For the economic prosperity of the country, it is necessary to increase domestic production through the development of entrepreneurship, emphasize the use of domestic products, and build a self-reliant and independent economy. Both entrepreneurs who invest capital and laborers who invest labor and skills are equally important for the development of entrepreneurship, therefore, production and productivity must be increased by creating a dignified labor environment."

This day is celebrated every year on May 1 as the day when the rights and entitlements of workers are established to enhance their professional dignity and respect. President Paudel stated that this day helps to unite all workers worldwide in a bond of unity for the protection of their rights, interests, entitlements, and freedom.

He mentioned that the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the right to employment and the right to labor for all citizens, and also guarantees the right to appropriate remuneration, facilities, and social security based on contribution for every worker. He stated that the right to equality ensures that there will be no discrimination based on gender in remuneration and social security for equal work. The message reads, "I wish that World Labor Day inspires everyone to move forward towards ensuring respect for labor, self-employment, appropriate remuneration, and social security."
