Birgunj Customs Sees 36% Surge in Vehicle and Parts Imports in Nine Months

Birgunj. Vehicles and parts worth NPR 26.13 billion have been imported through the Birgunj transit point in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. This is an increase of NPR 6.94 billion, or 36.19%, compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, when vehicles and parts worth NPR 19.19 billion were imported.

Udaysingh Bisht, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, stated that the import of vehicles and their parts has increased in the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, NPR 18.22 billion in revenue was collected from the import of vehicle parts alone. In contrast, NPR 14.84 billion in revenue was collected from vehicle imports during the same period last fiscal year.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 591 fuel-powered jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 1.17 billion were imported. During the same period last fiscal year, 805 fuel-powered jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 1.66 billion were imported.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 45,620 motorcycles (unassembled) worth NPR 6.42 billion were imported. In the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, 35,799 motorcycles (unassembled) worth NPR 4.67 billion were imported.

Similarly, in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 21,639 tractors and tillers worth NPR 2.04 billion were imported. During the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, 13,861 tractors and tillers worth NPR 1.35 billion were imported.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, electric vehicles worth NPR 2.98 billion were imported. Compared to the same period last fiscal year, the import of electric vehicles increased by 102%, or NPR 1.50 billion, in terms of value. In the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, electric vehicles worth NPR 1.48 billion were imported.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 493 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 1.46 billion were imported. During the same period last fiscal year, 172 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 480 million were imported.
