Task Force on Constitution Amendment to Hold Second Meeting Today

Kathmandu. The second meeting of the 'Constitution Amendment Discussion Paper Preparation Task Force-2082', formed under the coordination of Asim Shah, political advisor to the Prime Minister, is scheduled for today. The Prime Minister's Secretariat stated that the meeting will be held at 3:00 PM at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

It is reported that today's meeting will focus on a detailed discussion regarding the issues identified for constitutional amendment based on the written opinions provided by various political parties.

Additionally, the agenda includes discussions on the task force's future operations and the proposed work plan. The task force is mandated to prepare a common discussion paper by incorporating suggestions from political parties to make the constitution more refined and timely.

'We only received the letter on Wednesday. It is not possible to provide suggestions immediately without discussing it within the party. However, it depends on which parties bring suggestions to today's meeting and what agendas are formed,' said Dr. Bhishma Adhikari, a member of the task force representing the CPN (UML).

The task force includes Mohan Acharya from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Dr. Bhishma Adhikari, a former Constituent Assembly member from the CPN (UML), Dev Prasad Gurung, a former Law Minister and Constituent Assembly member from the CPN (Maoist Centre), Gyanendra Shahi, parliamentary party leader from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Manoj Bhatta, General Secretary from the Rastriya Janamorcha, Dhruvaraj Rai from the Shram Sanskriti Party, Surendra Kumar Jha from the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, and Abhas Labh from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party.

The Nepali Congress has set conditions for its representation in the task force. As the government has not responded to those conditions, the Congress is not participating in the task force.

In the first meeting of the task force, the party had sent a letter instead of a representative.
