GenZ Red Force Nepal Criticizes Government Over Squatter Settlement Eviction Orders

Kathmandu. GenZ Red Force Nepal has criticized the government, accusing leaders who once vowed to stand in front of bulldozers to protect squatter settlements during elections of becoming cruel after attaining power. Expressing serious concern over the latest order by Mayor Balen Shah to clear encroached squatter settlements by Saturday and Sunday, the Red Force has termed the move inhumane and suicidal. 

In a statement issued by Central Coordinator Smriti Timalsina, it is mentioned that using bulldozers against the poor and proletariat class on the eve of the monsoon, without providing alternatives, compensation, or concrete management, is unjust. Recalling past elections, the Red Force reminded current leaders, including Mayor Balen Shah and Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, of their previous statements.

The statement expresses outrage, noting that leaders who once promised, 'We will not remove squatters; instead, we will stand in front of the bulldozers ourselves' to secure votes, are now forcing those same people onto the streets after reaching power. The Red Force has warned that the double standard of using squatter settlements as mere vote banks and then driving out the poor after gaining power must stop immediately.

Presenting a list of the government's failures, the statement mentions that the prices of domestically produced food items like bananas have become unaffordable, and fuel prices have skyrocketed. It is alleged that the government is breaking the backs of the public by imposing taxes even on small items brought by border residents for their daily needs. 

The Red Force asserts that attempting to demolish the huts of the poor without proper investigation and respectful alternatives at the start of the farming and monsoon season proves that this government is a complete failure.

GenZ Red Force has called on all residents of squatter settlements and affected citizens to unite, stating that the time has come to find the leaders who made promises during the election and force them to fulfill their vow of 'standing in front of the bulldozers.' 

The government has been warned that if it does not abandon its stubbornness, immediately withdraw the order, and pave the way for proper management, they will launch a strong protest. The Red Force stated that the government itself will be responsible for any consequences arising from such a situation.
