Police Uncertain Over Rape Case Against Actor Sagar Lamsal 'Bale' Due to Lack of Formal Complaint

Kathmandu. Police are in a dilemma regarding pursuing a rape case against artist Sagar Lamsal 'Bale' as no formal complaint has been filed against him. A woman residing in the United States had written a lengthy status on social media (Facebook) alleging that she was raped by Bale. Based on that status, Bale was arrested, but no formal rape complaint has been registered against him. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, told Rato Pati that no complaint has been filed by the victim against artist Lamsal. He stated, 'He was arrested after questions were raised on a sensitive matter; we will hold him for further investigation.'

Until a formal complaint is filed, the police are preparing to keep him in custody for an offense against public peace. SP Bhattarai mentioned that he will not be released immediately and the allegations are currently under investigation.

Police have the authority to keep an accused in custody by obtaining a remand from the Chief District Officer for offenses against public peace. The police are preparing to do the same in Lamsal's case.
