Severe Windstorm Warning Issued for Morang, Nepal, With Speeds Potentially Reaching 119 KPH

Biratnagar. According to the latest forecast from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a possibility of an extremely intense windstorm tomorrow in Morang district, particularly in the Biratnagar area.

According to the administration, the speed of the windstorm is estimated to reach up to approximately 119 kilometers per hour.

The District Administration Office, Morang, issued a notice on Friday, alerting the general public about the potential for significant physical and human damage caused by intense windstorms during this pre-monsoon season. The administration specifically highlighted risks such as falling trees, roofs and weak structures being blown away, and disruptions to electricity and communication services.

Given the rising incidents of deaths and injuries caused by windstorms in other parts of the country, the Morang administration has specially requested residents and travelers in the district to exercise high vigilance. The notice issued by Assistant Chief District Officer Saroj Koirala requested that people refrain from going outside or traveling unless absolutely necessary.

It was suggested to keep house windows and doors securely closed during the windstorm, keep sources of fire (gas, stove, etc.) turned off, and if driving a vehicle on the road, to stop immediately and take shelter in a safe place.

Residents have been urged not to stand under tall trees, telephone or electricity poles, wires, or weak structures, to avoid operating electrical equipment, and to stay away from and not touch any sagging electrical wires if seen.

The administration has also appealed to the residents of Morang not to panic or run in crowds during the disaster but to move calmly towards a safe location.
