Rastriya Swatantra Party Finalizes Cabinet Picks Amidst Internal Negotiations

Kathmandu. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which has secured near two-thirds majority, is currently engaged in the groundwork for forming the cabinet. Sources indicate that discussions are underway, creating a roster of relevant candidates for ministerial portfolios.

According to sources, only Swarnim Wagle's name is currently being discussed for the Finance Ministry. It is reported that as long as Wagle stakes a claim, no one else is vying for this ministry because there is no individual of comparable stature to Wagle available.

Previously, there was talk of bringing the current Finance Minister, Rameswor Khanal, into the National Assembly to 'check' Wagle. However, the government has recommended the current Home Minister, Om Prakash Aryal, for the vacant expert member seat in the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, two individuals are claiming the Home Ministry, considered another powerful portfolio. So far, the party's Vice Chairman DP Aryal and leader Sunil Lamsal are staking claims for this ministry.

Lamsal is close to Balen Shah. Elected from Rupandehi-1, his name was previously discussed for the post of General Secretary on behalf of the Balen team. The Balen faction wants to bring Lamsal in to balance the powerful ministries between the Balen and Ravi factions. However, Aryal has stated that he will not accept anything other than the Home Minister position.

The party has put forward Aryal as a candidate for Speaker, but it is reported that he is not interested in becoming the Speaker. If he does not get the Home Minister position, the option of accommodating him in Physical Infrastructure has been kept open, sources indicated.
