Krishna Prasad Timalsina Unanimously Elected Treasurer at NRNA Unity General Convention

Krishna Prasad Timalsina, who was born in Dhwankot, Dhading, and moved to the UK two and a half decades ago, has been unanimously elected as the Treasurer at the comprehensive unity general convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

 After being elected, he stated, 'My focus will be entirely on financial transparency. I will take special initiative to make the organization's fund tight and transparent and lead it towards further prosperity.'

Previously, although elected as Co-Treasurer at the 11th General Convention, his tenure was turbulent due to intense disputes within the NRNA. Immediately following the convention, the organization split into two factions; one group had already been conducting parallel activities even before that. In fact, even before that, the Shesh Ghale faction of the NRNA was already divided.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court's mandamus order to hold the unity general convention under the leadership of former President Shesh Ghale created further confusion in the organization. After the Supreme Court issued that order in Chaitra 2080, Badri KC, elected from the 11th General Convention, stopped going to the office, and instructions were given to start the process from the point of Magh 2078 to hold the unity convention.

However, stating that the organization should not be left without leadership, a writ petition was filed in favor of Badri KC under the leadership of Timalsina himself. At that time, Timalsina had said, 'This writ is not in favor of anyone, it is only to unite and connect the organization.' His initiative opened the way for the KC faction to work. After that, Timalsina continuously advocated that unity was the only option.

Similarly, the Badri KC faction did not participate in the convention where Mahesh Shrestha was elected President as per the Supreme Court's mandamus; they claimed that they held the official mandate.

Following the convention held in Baisakh last year under the coordination of Shesh Ghale, where Shrestha was elected President, talks began between the KC and Shrestha factions to re-unite the organization. From those talks, a 10-point agreement was reached to hold a comprehensive unity general convention encompassing all factions, including RK Sharma and Binod Kunwar's groups.

Ultimately, in line with the spirit of that agreement, the unity general convention has now been completed and a new working committee has been formed. While there is a jumbo team for positions like Vice President and Secretary in this committee, Timalsina was unanimously elected as Treasurer, along with Dr. Hemraj Sharma as President, Robin Sherchan as Senior Vice President, and Dr. Chiranjibi Khadka as General Secretary.

Timalsina, who has built a reputation as a social worker, is known within the NRNA as an honest personality.
