Severe Weather Hits Kathmandu Valley and Other Regions with Gusts, Thunderstorms, and Hail

Kathmandu. With the change in weather, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail occurred in many parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley today.

Central Police Spokesperson Abhinarayan Kafle informed that a road blocked by a fallen tree in Bhainsepati, Lalitpur due to strong winds has been cleared. Police stated that strong winds also brought down the Salesberry signboard in Satdobato today. However, no human casualties were reported in the area.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Kathmandu received 9.2 millimeters of rain in the last 12 hours today, Lalitpur received seven millimeters, and Bhaktapur received 3.4 millimeters.

Similarly, Dhankuta received the highest rainfall today at 36.2 millimeters. Palpa received 24.8 millimeters, Gulmi received 9.2 millimeters, and Tanahun received 10 millimeters. Scattered rainfall occurred in Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces today, while many districts in other provinces experienced rain.

Department Spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha informed that the weather is gradually improving and predicted cloudy conditions in some places tomorrow as well.

According to the department, the Himalayan region of the country will generally be cloudy tonight, while the remaining hilly and Terai regions will have partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning, and snowfall in a few places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, and in one or two places in the remaining Himalayan regions.
