CPN-UML General Secretary Criticizes Rise of 'Populist' Forces Following Recent Election Results

Kathmandu. A virtual Zoom meeting has commenced with the provincial and district chairpersons of the CPN-UML.

Addressing the meeting, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel commented on the latest vote count results, claiming that a new force has emerged based on the foundation of populism and anarchism. He made this remark specifically hinting at the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Pokharel claimed that the RSP is a coalition of populists and opportunists, criticizing that such forces lack clear ideology, principles, and a long-term political vision regarding the nation and nationalism. According to him, such forces advance by promising quick popularity and immediate results, but they will eventually face a situation where they cannot deliver results in practice.

He stated that the public was misled by propaganda based on the slogan of 'new and old faces' against Chairman KP Sharma Oli and the CPN-UML. He remarked that this style of propaganda is a form of populism spread through the use of digital media.

General Secretary Pokharel clarified that the CPN-UML respects the results given by the people, asserting that the general electorate has not severed ties with the UML. Mentioning that the CPN-UML has a presence in every society and household, he stated that the party will now accelerate organization building and mobilization in a new manner.

Pokharel expressed confidence that as forces driven by short-term popularity fail to deliver expected results, the public will ultimately return to the CPN-UML, which possesses stable ideology and an organized strength.
