Rastriya Swatantra Party's Gyanendra Bahadur Mahata Wins Kanchanpur-3 House Seat by Wide Margin

Dhangadhi. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Gyanendra Bahadur Mahata has won the election for the House of Representatives member from Kanchanpur Constituency No. 3 by a significant margin. Mahata secured his journey to parliament by defeating his closest competitor, Hari Prasad Bohara of the Nepali Congress.

Mahata won by securing 27,118 votes. After his victory, Mahata stated that his team had expected such a result even before the election.

He is a resident of Mahendranagar. His background is in journalism. Mahata had been raising the voice of the people through radio and television. He was associated with journalism as an active journalist in Kanchanpur. After the formation of the RSP, he left journalism and joined the party. He is the in-charge of the Sudurpaschim Province for the Rastriya Swatantra Party. He also ventured into agriculture by cultivating dragon fruit.

Now, the people have sent him to the parliament as their representative.

'Many called us just hot air, but we are not hot air; we are the wildfire that has come to blow away corruption and malpractice,' he said. He stated that the main basis for his victory was the public's frustration and desire for change. During the election campaign, he gathered many experiences. Mahata shared that when he went door-to-door, people asked him, 'Will you return after winning?'

According to Mahata, the voters of Kanchanpur Constituency No. 3, who have only received assurances for years, will receive justice this time.

'I only saw disappointment in the eyes of the people. No one could say they were happy with what they received. After nothing happened for 35 years, the situation arose where we had to choose a new path,' he said. His plan now is not to make big or deceptive promises, but rather to bring the malfunctioning government machinery back on track. Upon entering parliament, Mahata's first priority will be good governance. Before the election, he had stated that the situation where one has to approach a leader even to install an electric pole or receive basic treatment at a hospital must end.

'Our governance system has become leader-centric; now it must be made system-centric,' he said. He also announced that immediately after being elected, he would meet with the heads of government offices in Kanchanpur to discuss why the public's problems are not being resolved.

He believes that if good governance is established, 70 percent of the public's problems will be automatically resolved. Mahata, who entered the field with a new party and youthful vigor, stated that the mandate received is also a heavy burden of responsibility. 'The time has come to show results through work rather than just talking now,' he said.
