Election Commission Directs Monitoring Officers to Enforce Strict Code of Conduct Ahead of Parliamentary Elections

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has issued further directives to the election code of conduct monitoring officers. The Commission today instructed the effective implementation of special conduct that must be adhered to from today until the polling stations close on the day of voting.

The House of Representatives election is scheduled for this coming Falgun 21. To ensure the enforcement of the election code of conduct, Assistant Chief District Officers and Chiefs of the Treasury and Accounts Controller Offices have been appointed as election code of conduct monitoring officers with distinct responsibilities.

The Commission has directed the effective monitoring of the adherence to all aspects stipulated by the code of conduct, which must be followed by all concerned parties from today until Falgun 21, in accordance with the provisions included in the election code of conduct.

The Commission has reminded officials about the special conduct that must be observed from 48 hours prior to the voting day until the polling stations close on the voting day, as stipulated in Article 17 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082. They have been instructed to conduct meticulous monitoring within their respective districts to effectively implement this provision by monitoring compliance with the conduct required on the day of voting.

Instructions have been issued to effectively implement and enforce the provisions under the relevant act if any actions are found to be in violation of the Election Code of Conduct and the Election (Offenses and Penalties) Act, 2073, in collaboration with the District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee. Accordingly, the Commission has cordially requested that activities prohibited by prevailing laws and the election code of conduct during the campaign prohibition period must not be carried out.
