Himachal Pradesh Police Detain Delhi Police Officers Over Alleged Illegal Arrest Operation

Shimla. The Himachal Pradesh Police have taken around 20 personnel of the Delhi Police into custody. The Himachal Police stopped and detained the Delhi Police team in the Solan district, alleging that they conducted a raid without following the necessary legal procedures and prior notification required when making arrests in another state.

The Delhi Police team was attempting to arrest three Youth Congress workers from Rohru, Shimla, who had stripped and protested at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The Himachal Police concluded that the Delhi Police violated the legal provision mandating prior notification to local police for inter-state arrests.

Earlier, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had strongly objected to a midnight raid conducted by the Delhi Police at the Himachal Sadan, where he himself was present. Chief Minister Sukhu condemned the warrant-less raid as unconstitutional and unfortunate.

According to Chief Minister Sukhu, the police operation was mobilized without informing the Resident Commissioner while he was present at the Himachal Sadan. This incident has created serious tension between the police administrations of the two states. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police stated that they are proceeding with action against those who stripped and protested during the conference held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on February 20.

During that protest, the Youth Congress workers had shouted slogans against the India-US trade agreement and the Prime Minister. In this case, more than eight members, including the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, Uday Bhanu Chib, have already been arrested.

The Himachal Police informed that further investigation and legal consultation are underway regarding the Delhi Police personnel taken into custody.
