Transport Federation Expresses Grief Over Pokhara-Kathmandu Bus Accident, Demands Implementation of Safety Reports

Kathmandu. The National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs of Nepal has expressed sorrow over the bus accident involving a bus traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

The bus lost control and fell from the road into the Trishuli River bank on Monday at Bhaisigouda, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, Dhading, along the Prithvi Highway. Nineteen passengers lost their lives in the accident.

Meanwhile, the Federation welcomed the formation of an investigation committee by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the bus accident and strongly demanded the immediate implementation of the report from the task force formed by the government regarding transportation in the past and the report from the accident investigation committee.

In a press release issued by the Federation's Acting Secretary General Purushottam Simkhada on Tuesday, it was stated, 'Due to the government's failure to implement the report submitted by the task force formed with experts for accident reduction, including the Simtal Bus Accident Report 2081 formed after the road accident and the Nepal Government's Transport Improvement Suggestion Task Force Report 2080, road accidents are increasing day by day.'

A strong demand has also been made to the Government of Nepal for an environment where public transportation can operate in an undisputed and fear-free environment by strictly managing appropriate safety and security for public vehicles operating in various parts of the country.
