Election Commission Warns of Strict Action Against Educators Involved in Campaigning

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has warned of strict action against teachers, professors, and staff affiliated with educational institutions who are involved in election campaigning and related activities.

On Monday, Election Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai mentioned receiving complaints about their participation in the campaigning for any political party or candidate, and warned that strict action would be taken against them according to the law.  

The Commission has cautioned teachers and professors against participating in such activities, noting that the election code of conduct and related legal provisions stipulate action that could lead to the loss of their positions. The Commission has also alerted all concerned parties to focus on ensuring the complete observance of the election code of conduct.

Commission Spokesperson Bhattarai stated, 'Professors, teachers, and staff affiliated with educational institutions are cautioned not to engage in or facilitate the election campaigning of any political party or candidate that violates the code of conduct, keeping in mind the dignity of their position, neutrality, and legal obligations. It is informed that if found participating in election campaigning activities contrary to the provisions of the code of conduct, action will be taken as per Section 48 of the code of conduct. Furthermore, a request is made for necessary monitoring by the District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, Election Officer, Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officer, and the Election Office regarding the full compliance with the election code of conduct.'
