Sri Lanka Sets 179-Run Target for Zimbabwe in T20 World Cup Clash

Colombo. Sri Lanka has set a target of 179 runs for Zimbabwe in the ongoing T20 World Cup match held in Colombo. Having won the toss and elected to bat first in the Group B fixture, Sri Lanka posted 178 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Pathum Nissanka was the top contributor for the team, scoring 62 runs. He hit 8 fours off 41 balls.

He provided an aggressive start for Sri Lanka alongside Kusal Perera in the first wicket partnership. The pair added 54 runs in 30 balls. Perera was dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 14 balls.

Thereafter, Dhananjaya de Silva anchored the Sri Lankan innings while other batters got out cheaply. He scored 44 runs off 25 balls, which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Kusal Mendis scored 14 runs off 20 balls.

For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani, who has proven successful in this World Cup, conceded 38 runs in 4 overs for 2 wickets. Graeme Cremer conceded 27 runs in 4 overs for 2 wickets. Brad Evans also bagged 2 wickets, conceding 35 runs in 3 overs. Richard Ngarava took 1 wicket.

Sri Lanka has secured three wins in the tournament so far. The team has defeated Ireland, Oman, and Australia.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe has won two matches against Oman and Australia. One match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain.

Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have both advanced to the Super 8 stage from Group B with 6 points and 5 points respectively.
