Second National Hockey Tournament Kicks Off in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. The second National Hockey Tournament, organized by the Nepal Hockey Association, is set to begin on Monday. Six teams will participate in the men's category: Gandaki, Koshi, Madhesh, Sudurpashchim, Bagmati Province, and Nepal Police Club, as informed by the organizing association's General Secretary, Suvarna Shrestha, at a press conference here on Friday.

Participating teams will be divided into two groups and matches will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis. In the women's category, five teams will participate, including Gandaki, Koshi, Madhesh, Sudurpashchim, and Bagmati Province. After the round-robin league, the top two teams will compete for the title.

The top three teams in both groups will receive cash prizes of NPR 75,000, NPR 50,000, and NPR 25,000 respectively, informed Anil Prasad Sharma, President of the organizing association. The best player will receive NPR 5,000, and the 'Player of the Match' for each game will be awarded NPR 2,000 cash.

The tournament games, which will run until Falgun 11, will be held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor. This marks the first time a hockey tournament is being held at Dasharath Stadium under the organization of the Hockey Association.
