Clash Erupts at Central Jail in Kathmandu's Sundhara; One Injured

A clash has occurred at the Central Jail located in Sundhara, Kathmandu. The altercation took place inside the women's detention center. One person was injured in the clash between the group of Vishnu Malla, the warden of the women's detention center, and other inmates.

Spokesperson for the Valley Police Office (SSP) Pravin Dhital told Ratopati that the fight broke out between the warden and other inmates over a dispute regarding the price of goods inside the jail. He stated, 'The fight occurred following a dispute with the warden; the situation is now under control.'

The warden of the women's detention center is Vishnu Malla. She was incarcerated in the jail on charges of attempted murder. Central Jail DSP Shailesh Neupane is accused of allowing the female warden to meet with male wardens. It is alleged that the wardens in all three blocks operating within the Central Jail have implemented a 'syndicate' in the canteen and shops operating there.

When Warden Malla demanded money from the inmates, saying it 'must be handed over to the administration,' the inmates started protesting by banging plates from Friday morning. A police officer from the Unauthorized Gulm, Jagannathdewal, told Ratopati that the jail administration transferred 17 women from the women's detention center to other jails.

There are more than 300 female inmates in the women's detention center.
