CPN Chairman Prachanda Honors Martyrs in Rukum East Ahead of Elections

Kathmandu. CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' visited the historic Mahat village in Rukum East to pay homage to martyrs. Prachanda, who is a candidate for Rukum East in the upcoming elections on Falgun 21, garlanded the martyrs' statue after reaching Mahat village in the morning.

The War Memorial Park, built in memory of 58 people killed by the state during the People's War, has the historic Mahat village in its background. On Jestha 5, 2056 BS, the then Maoists took DSP Thule Rai of the police under their control in Mahat village.

Later, an agreement was reached between the state and the then Maoists, where Dev Gurung, held by the state, was handed over to the Maoists, while the Maoists handed over DSP Thule Rai to the state.

Rai was a high-ranking police officer captured by the Maoists during the People's War. In Chaitra 2057 BS, the Rukumkot outpost was attacked and completely captured.
