Maoist Party to Mark 31st People's War Day in Rukum East with Chairman Prachanda in Attendance

Rukum East. The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) is set to observe the 31st People's War Day today by organizing various programs in Rukum East. CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' arrived in Rukum East on Thursday to jointly celebrate the day with martyrs' families, the disappeared, the injured, the disabled, and local residents at Rukum East, the site where the People's War began.

The People's War, initiated by the then CPN (Maoist) on Falgun 1, 2052 BS, lasted for ten years. Prachanda, the main leader of the People's War, is celebrating the People's War Day in Rukum East for the first time. Among the achievements of the People's War is Rukum East, one of the youngest districts formed after federalism. Prachanda is contesting as a candidate for the House of Representatives from Rukum East with the objective of starting the socialist revolution from the base area of the People's War led by him.

At the People's War Day program scheduled today in Khabang Bagar, Bhume Rural Municipality-2, CPN Chairman Prachanda has a program to honor the families of martyrs. There are 252 martyrs in Rukum East.

The People's War was launched by the then CPN (Maoist) on Falgun 1, 2052 BS, with the objective of ending the monarchy and establishing a new democratic system. The Maoists started the People's War by attacking the police posts at Aathbiskot in Rukum, Holeri in Rolpa, Sindhuligadhi in Sindhuli, and the Agricultural Development Bank in Chyangli, Gorkha.

To advance the People's War, the then Maoists designated districts including Rukum East, Rukum (West and East), and Rolpa as their base areas.

On Baisakh 23, 2053 BS, one police officer was killed in an ambush attack by the Maoists at Chherabang in Uplo Sera. In an ambush attack in Kubang on Magh 16, 2054 BS, the Maoists captured a Three-Not-Three rifle for the first time in Nepal.

On Ashoj 5, 2056 BS, police personnel stationed in Mahat were attacked and captured, and security personnel including Deputy Superintendent of Police Thule Rai were taken into custody. Rai was one of the high-ranking police officers captured by the Maoists during the People's War.

In Chaitra 2057 BS, the Rukumkot police post was attacked and completely captured. In that attack, 40 people died, including 32 police personnel and 8 cadres.

In Magh 2061 BS, the Maoist Politburo meeting held in Labang, Rukum, took action against Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, expelling him from the party. In Ashoj 2062 BS, the Central Committee meeting of the then CPN (Maoist) held in Chunbang, Rukum, passed the working policy for a democratic republic, charting a path for a peaceful political journey.

In the course of implementing the decision of the Chunbang meeting, a 12-point agreement was reached between seven political parties. According to this agreement, the monarchy was ended through the combination of the People's War and the People's Movement, leading to the establishment of a republic, federalism, secularism, and a proportional system with social justice.

Before celebrating the People's War Day today, Chairman Prachanda is scheduled to visit Mahat village, where cadres captured Deputy Superintendent of Police Thule Rai, and Labang village, where the decision to take action against Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was made.
