Election Commission Refers 181 Instances of Misinformation to Cyber Bureau for Action

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has forwarded 181 pieces of information spreading false news related to elections to the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau for action.

Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai provided this information during a regular press conference held by the Election Commission on Friday.

'181 pieces of information violating the code of conduct have been sent to the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau for action in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063,' said Spokesperson Bhattarai, 'Seven pieces of false information have been sent to the Authority for action in accordance with the Telecommunications Authority Act.'

The Commission also stated that 40 cases involving violations of the code of conduct through dedicated websites have been sent to the Press Council.

Furthermore, the Commission reported that 47 pieces of false information have been sent to the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee for action. The Commission noted that although actions against violations of the code of conduct are decreasing, they have not decreased as expected.
