CPN-UML Vice Chairman Warns of Societal Crisis Due to Spread of False Information

Lumbini. CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bishnu Prasad Paudel stated that serious problems are emerging in society due to false information. He mentioned that the proliferation of false information is creating problems in society.

While inaugurating a training program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Rupandehi, in Butwal on Friday, Vice Chairman Paudel emphasized the need for journalists to be responsible and vigilant in stopping the spread of misleading information through social media.

“There is a rampant spread of false information in society. Social media is developing as a medium for spreading false information; if this cannot be stopped, serious problems will arise in society,” he said, adding, “Journalists must be responsible and vigilant to stop false and misleading information.”

Stating that science and technology are bringing great changes to human life, Paudel said that as the world becomes smaller with the development of science and technology, its use must be for the benefit of humanity.

He clarified that no matter how great a change science and technology bring, humans will remain the ultimate truth. He also stated that technology cannot displace human knowledge and wisdom. Vice Chairman Paudel said that false information spreading on social media pushes society towards problems. He stated that the role of journalists is decisive in identifying and controlling such information and urged them to keep truth, facts, and responsibility at the center while using technology.

More than two dozen journalists active in Rupandehi participated in the training organized on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of Press Chautari Nepal. AI experts Ajay Sharma and Amrit Panthi served as the trainers for the training.
