Pakistani Envoy in Nepal Stresses UN Resolution for Kashmir Dispute Resolution

Kathmandu. Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal, Abrar Hashmi, stated that a lasting solution to the long-standing Kashmir dispute is only possible through the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 47.

Speaking at an event organized at the embassy here on the occasion of Kashmir Unity Day, Ambassador Hashmi mentioned that the resolution presents a clear roadmap for resolving the issue. The resolution mandates a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, withdrawal of military forces from Jammu and Kashmir, and the arrangement of a free and fair plebiscite for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their own future.

He expressed concern that seven decades have passed since the adoption of the UN resolution guaranteeing the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination, yet it remains unfulfilled. Ambassador Hashmi emphasized that the international community must play a more active role in ensuring the implementation of UN resolutions concerning Kashmir.

Kashmir Unity Day is observed annually to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people and to highlight the unresolved status of the Kashmir dispute.
