Zelenskyy Reveals Approximately 55,000 Ukrainian Soldiers Killed in War with Russia

Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that approximately 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia so far. He made this figure public during a pre-recorded interview with France 2 television.

According to him, the deceased include both professional soldiers and those conscripted compulsorily. He mentioned that a large number of soldiers are still missing, but he did not disclose the exact number of missing personnel.

These comments come as the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine approaches and against the backdrop of ongoing ceasefire talks in Abu Dhabi to stop the war. In a previous interview with NBC in February 2025, Zelenskyy had stated the number of soldiers killed was over 46,000.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington estimated that by mid-2025, nearly 400,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed or wounded in the war.

According to the United Nations, in 2025 alone, 2,514 civilians died due to the Russian invasion. 12,142 people were injured. Russia has also suffered heavy losses in the war.

According to Ukrainian military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, approximately 420,000 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded in 2025 alone.
