Health Minister States Current Health Insurance Program Cannot Continue As Is

Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Dr. Sudha Gautam has stated that the health insurance program cannot be continued in its current state.

She made this statement on Wednesday while addressing a discussion program related to health insurance.

Minister Gautam also complained that although she initiated reform programs to advance the health insurance program smoothly, concerned ministries did not support them.

Minister Gautam stated that although the Constitution of Nepal mandates basic health services to be free, and the government has arranged for 98 types of medicines to be distributed free of cost, the existing health insurance program created complications even for that. She added that concerned ministries did not cooperate even when they were preparing to bring an ordinance to make legal arrangements to remove those complications.
