Bollywood Films Dominate Nepali Box Office Amidst Strong Performance of Three Hindi Releases

The influence and business of Bollywood films have been quite aggressive in the Nepali film market recently. According to the latest box office report published by the Film Development Board, three Hindi films—'Dhurandhar', 'Border 2', and 'The Raja Saab'—are currently showing in Nepali theaters. All three films are generating business in the crores of rupees. Among the three, 'Dhurandhar' appears to be leading in terms of business, while 'The Raja Saab' is the weakest.

The spy-thriller film 'Dhurandhar', directed by Aditya Dhar, has achieved remarkable success at the Nepali box office. According to box office statistics up to last Saturday, this film has grossed NPR 10,53,55,361. Based on a true story, this film features veteran actors such as Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan.

According to the Board, 319,888 tickets for the film have been sold during this period. Released on December 5, this film has been doing good business since its premiere in Nepal.

Similarly, Sunny Deol starrer 'Border 2', made against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, has also received good support from Nepali audiences. Made on a massive budget of NPR 275 crores, this film has grossed NPR 2,21,93,910 in Nepal up to Saturday.

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film stars Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles. So far, 69,066 tickets for the film have been sold.

On the other hand, despite expectations of good business, the performance of South Indian superstar Prabhas's highly anticipated film 'The Raja Saab' has been somewhat sluggish in Nepal. The film, which reportedly failed to meet expected business worldwide, could not create the desired magic in Nepal either.

Released on January 9, this film has so far grossed NPR 1,77,10,239. Directed by Maruti, the film stars Prabhas alongside Sanjay Dutt and Malavika Mohanan in the main roles. During this period, 55,214 tickets for the film have been sold. This film, where Prabhas appears in the role of 'Raja Saab', was released worldwide in five languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Until some time ago, it seemed that the business of Hindi films was declining and the business of Nepali films was increasing. However, the latest data from the Board shows that the demand for Hindi films in the Nepali market is still high.
