Highly Anticipated 'Border 2' Smashes Records, Outperforming 2025 Blockbuster on Opening Weekend

Mumbai. The highly anticipated film ‘Border 2’ was released on Friday (23 January 2026). The film, which garnered significant attention even before its release, has started breaking new records with an aggressive opening at the box office.

The film not only surpassed records on its first day but also broke the record of the 2025 blockbuster film ‘Dhurandhar’ on the second day. The film collected INR 36.70 crore on its second day at the box office.

The film had earned INR 30 crore on its first day. Thus, the film's total collection after two days has reached INR 66.70 crore.

This film has broken the record of ‘Dhurandhar’, the highest-grossing film of 2025, on both days. ‘Dhurandhar’ had earned INR 28 crore on the first day and INR 32 crore on the second day.

According to media reports, the total budget for ‘Border 2’ is INR 275 crore. Various war drama films based on the military have been made in Bollywood over time.

War dramas in this genre can be divided into three categories: First – based on a military background, Second – Biopic War Drama, and Third – Historical War Drama.

Among all categories of war dramas, the record for the highest first-day collection was previously held by ‘Padmaavat’, which earned INR 24 crore. However, ‘Border 2’ has shattered that record as well by earning INR 30 crore on its first day.

‘Border 2’ is a sequel to the 1997 film ‘Border’. In 1997, ‘Border’ earned INR 1.10 crore on its first day and INR 90 lakh on the second day.

The lifetime collection of that film was INR 39.30 crore. ‘Border 2’ has already earned more than one and a half times the total collection of the old film in just two days.
